AIPAD Photography Show March 26th in New York. More than 70 of the world's leading fine art photography galleries will present a wide range of museum quality work by contemporary, modern and 19th century masters at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City. The 29th edition of The AIPAD Photography Show New York will open with a Gala Preview on March 25th to benefit the John Szarkowski Fund of The Museum of Modern Art. The AIPAD Photography Show New York is the longest running and most respected photography art fair.
Gala Benefit Preview
The AIPAD Photography Show New York will present a Gala Benefit Preview on Wednesday, March 25th, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The evening will benefit the John Szarkowski Fund, an endowment for photography acquisitions at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The fund was established to honor John Szarkowski, one of the most influential curators in photography and a photographer in his own right.

Featured Special Exhibitions
Innovation
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of AIPAD, The AIPAD Photography Show New York will present a thematic "exhibition within an exhibition." From daguerreotype to new media, each gallery will highlight a work that reflects an innovation - such as a technical or artistic development or a seminal work - in the history of photography. A complete catalogue of the Innovation special exhibition, including images and wall text, will be available at http://www.aipad.com.
Cause & Effect
The Center for the Legacy of Photography, a new initiative of George Eastman House and the Image Permanence Institute at Rochester Institute of Technology, will present a special exhibition that includes vintage photographic prints drawn from George Eastman House's extensive collection. The exhibition will provide insight into historic cause-and-effect relationships of materials and processes.

The artist will discuss emerging trends and collector strategies for New Media in the context of his current exhibit, entitled "CONTENT," on view now in the Beverly Hills gallery. Denver - SPE 2008 National Conference
The Society of Photographic Educators is having their National Conference in Denver, March 13th - 16th. The conference will take place at the Adam's Mark Hotel, in the heart of downtown Denver. This is the 45th annual conference and it's billed as "Agents of Change: Art and Advocacy."
Here's a statement from the Conference Chair.
The work of a photographic artist took center stage during the 108th United States Congress. On the agenda was the fate of drilling for oil in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). According to Secretary Gale Norton ANWR was “a flat white nothingness.” In response, Senator Barbara Boxer denounced drilling and held up a book of photographs by Subhanker Banerjee that showed the refuge brimming with life. Congress voted to save ANWR from drilling for two more years.
Lens-based artists have been catalysts for change with imagery that advocates social and environmental awareness. Artists bear witness, interpret, expose and address problems ranging from the Aids epidemic and stereotypes in race and gender to the plight of refugees in war torn countries. In what ways are artists responding to the local and global challenges that are reshaping politics, cultures, economies and the planet? As educators, artists and scholars, what has been the historical impact of our advocacy? What role will we play in shaping the future?
Denver and the Rocky Mountain West have long been home to diverse and often opposing political, social, economic and environmental interests. With fortunes historically linked to extractive industries like mining, natural gas, and oil, Denver is also a leader in urban planning and energy conservation. The Mile High City has been invigorated by major new projects in the arts. The Denver Art Museum has opened its new Hamilton Building, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. The Denver Museum of Contemporary Art has broken ground for a new 27,000 square foot environmentally-efficient building. Denver is a dynamic and growing modern city that enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year and the magnificent Rocky Mountains in the backyard.

Miami Art Fairs and Photographic Art
Contemporary photography is a hot art medium and highly collectable. If you’re interested in collecting it, be sure to be in Miami, December 5th – 9th. The AIPAD Photography Show and Photo Miami are two art fairs specializing in photographic art. Over the past ten years, Paris Photo has won wide recognition as one of the worlds top art fairs for still photography. This unique event offers an in-depth and broad view of the medium, with the best of fine art photography from the earliest days to the present time and a forward looking survey of whats happening in fine art photography today.
The art fair will run November 15th to 18th, and will bring together 105 exhibitors (83 galleries and 22 publishers) from 16 countries. Seventy-seven percent of the participants come from outside France. The spotlight and will be on Italy and its photographic history, including contemporary artists.
Eighty-three international galleries selected from three hundred applicants. In addition to the 18 French galleries, the largest contingent of foreign exhibitors come from Italy (16), followed by the USA (15), Spain (7), Germany (6), the UK (5), Holland and Japan (3 each), Finland (2) and one representative each from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, Luxemburg, Portugal, and South Africa.
The following New York galleries are participating: Bonni Benrubi, Charles Cowles, Gitterman Gallery, Howard Greenberg, Edwynn Houk, Charles Isaacs Photographs, Hans P. Kraus, Jr., Yvon Lambert, Laurence Miller, Robert Miller, Yancey Richardson, Bruce Silverstein Photography. Other galleries from the United States are: Robert Klein (Boston), M+B (Los Angeles), and Rose Gallery (Santa Monica).

Three major photography fairs will be in Miami this December.

Art Photo Expo will be focusing on International fashion photography. Photo Miami is back for the second year and will be presenting photo-based art, video and new media from national and international galleries, and invitational solo project by artists.

Photo-London Opens May 31
Just wanted to take a few minutes to tell you about Photo-London. This is a major European art fair specializing in photography and it opens May 31st and continues through June 3rd. You still have to time catch a plane to London, and hotel rooms are still available. However, you won't see many works from the United States because only a galleries signed up, they include: Bruce Silverstein from New York, the Rose Gallery from Santa Monica, and M+B from Los Angeles. You'll have a chance to see what the dealers from the UK and the rest of Europe have to offer. I'm sure you'll see a lot of contemporary photographic art at this fair.
