New Photography Publication and Workshop

The Center for Fine Art Photography located in Fort Collins, CO has just released it's first issue of Artists' ShowCase Portfolio. It consists of portfolios by fifteen artists from the U.S., New Zealand and Germany. Derek Henderson was selected by juror Darius Himes for the cover and the first portfolio within the book. Each artist will receive a copy, as well as have their portfolio presented on the Center's website for the next two years.

Robert Ketchum Workshop
Robert will be conducting a workshop November 8 and 9. There are a few openings remaining. Anyone seriously interested in affecting peoples attitudes about the environment or other social issues through their photography will want to attend this workshop.

Ketchum is internationally recognized for his affect on social conscience and change through his photography, and by his visits with Congressional and other international leaders concerned for our environment. For more details and to register for his workshop, click here.

Introduction to Collecting PhotographyAperture Gallery New York

Aperture Foundation and gallery is hosting a compelling panel discussion dedicated to collecting affordable photography. Moderated by Laurel Ptak, Aperture's Educational Programs Manager, the discussion will include Kellie McLaughlin of Aperture's Limited-Edition Photographs Program, Amani Olu, founder and executive director of the Humble Arts Foundation and Director of the Bond Street Gallery, collector Ruben Natal-San Miguel of ARTmostfierce arts blog, and photographer Brian Ulrich.

Geared specifically towards first-time and young collectors, the panelists will share thoughts and give advice on how to start collecting great photography with a reasonable budget.

Kenneth ParkerBuddhist Earth: Sacred Places / Sacred Work

The Center for Photographic Art in Carmel, CA is featuring a highly popular exhibition of photographs by Kenneth Parker. The show is titled: Buddhist Earth: Sacred Places / Sacred Work.
Due to the continuing strong public interest and attendance, two additional months were added to the exhibition run, it ends on September 30th.

The exhibition features large color photographs of ancient Tibetan, Burmese, and Khmer temples and landscapes. Also on display is an ancient sitting Buddha shrine and two display cases full of elegant old Tibetan artifacts. The opening was attended by approximately 1500 people and a blessing performed by three High Tibetan Lamas.

On Saturday, September 13th, Kenneth Parker will be at the gallery giving a talk about the exhibition, it will start at 1:00pm.

Kenneth Parker's early experience as fine art color pioneer Eliot Porter’s field assistant helped him to isolate and capture mysteries in nature that he struggled for decades to unravel as a PhD oceanographer in global climate change. Paul Caponigro and William Giles have also brought essential influences into his development as close, consistent mentors since the 70s. His work is represented by the Weston Gallery in Carmel and other leading galleries and collections nationwide, and has been has exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution, Oakland Museum, California Academy of Sciences, Los Angeles County and San Diego Museums of Natural History.
